We’re very pleased to have one of Trailsides fan favourites Laura Smith open our third season. Laura is a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter based in Mahone Bay, NS. She is best known for her 1995 single “Shade of Your Love”, one of the year’s biggest hits on radio and for her adaptation of the Scottish folk song “My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean” which she entitled “My Bonny”. Laura’s most recent album “Everything Is Moving” was released in April 2013 on the popular folk-roots label Borealis Records.

With a songwriting career that spans more than 30 years, Ron Hynes is a six-time East Coast Music Award winner, a Genie Award winner and a past Juno, CCMA and Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee. He’s been recipient of both Artist of The Year and the prestigious Arts Achievement Award from the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. John’s Folk Arts Council. Ron Hynes also holds an Honorary PhD from Memorial University for his songwriting and contribution to the cultural life of his beloved home province of Newfoundland (Canada). Frequently referred to as the “man of a thousand songs”, Ron Hynes’ songs have been covered by dozens of artists worldwide, including Emmylou Harris, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Denny Doherty, Murray McLauchlan, Valdy, John McDermott, Terry Kelly, Prairie Oyster, The Good Brothers, Shaye, The Cottars, Craig Sharpe, Hayley Westenra, and many more.

Based in Halifax, singer-songwriter and master finger-style guitarist, Thom Swift has enjoyed a career in music that that has brought him a multitude of national awards and acclaim. His most recent record, The Fortunate Few continues his winning ways. Thom is currently up for a 2014 East Coast Music Award for Blues Recording of the Year. With a strong foundation in Americana roots and blues, his distinctive original music has brought him to soft seat venues and festivals across Canada, the United States and Europe.

Saturday, May 3rd- Irish Mythen & Liam Corcoran

Singer-songwriters Irish Mythen and Liam Corcoran will present a duo performance at the Trailside on May 3rd.This collaboration will see these two artists accompany each other on their own original songs as well as some traditional folk material. Originally hailing from County Wexford in Ireland, Mythen now calls Charlottetown home. She has toured internationally and is a multi- award nominee. Her last album Open Here was nominated for Roots Album of the year at the East Coast Music Awards. She is currently in the studio recording her new album. Corcoran was the frontman for the popular Charlottetown pop-rock band Two Hours Traffic. He also performs with Hey Rosetta’s Kinley Dowling in a contemporary folk act called the Express. He will be performing new material along with selections from his past recordings.

With a Canadian Folk Music Award nod and six Music PEI Award nominations under her belt, and having landed at #3 on Penguin Eggs magazine’s list of favourite new discoveries of the year, Montague, PEI’s Ashley Condon returns to Trailside Café & Inn for an intimate night of music. She will be playing songs from her stunning David Francey-produced sophomore album, This Great Compromise, as well as showcasing new material.

A #1 album on the Galaxie folk and roots charts last year, This Great Compromise showcases Condon’s uncommon song-writing skill, marked by a rare and hard-won level of maturity and emotional nuance.

Amy & Rachel Beck are a folk duo with undeniable pop sensibilities. Amy is a talented multi-instrumentalist who switches from acoustic guitar to piano or cajon with ease during live shows – she may even break out a harmonica, banjitar, or loop pedal to mix things up. Rachel usually takes the lead on vocals, but the sisters’ voices blend and weave together in such a way that it is nearly impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins. Amy & Rachel’s warmth and easy banter draw you in as they share songs of love, heartbreak, and hope. Before you know it, you feel like part of the family.

Sunday, May 11th- Mother’s Day Show w/ Dennis Ellsworth & Lindy Vopnfjord

Dennis Ellsworth is a Prince Edward Island based songwriter and Lindy Vopnfjord (of Major Maker “Rollercoaster” fame) is from Winnipeg, though based in Toronto, ON. Both songwriters are supporting new releases. Lindy’s newest, Young Waverer, has delivered three CBC Radio 2 heavy rotation singles, one of which, “The Limit”, peaked at #1 on the national charts. Dennis Ellsworth’s new release, Hazy Sunshine that was produced by Josh Finlayson of Skydiggers, recently garnered Roots Contemporary Album of the Year and Male Solo Recording of the Year at Music PEI Awards 2014. The single “Everything’s Fine” has entered into rotation on national radio in Canada and the United Kingdom (CBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 2). The two songwriters met in Halifax in the summer of 2013 and came up with
the plan that they would tour together in the spring of 2014. The “Lazy Like the Moon” Spring Tour is the result of that meeting. The twenty-one date
tour kicks off April 16 in Guelph, Ontario and the final show will be on “Mother’s Day” at the Trailside.

J.P Cormier is a man with many musical talents. He is a skilled songwriter, a gifted singer, and an extraordinary musician who has accomplished success with more than one instrument. During his long career, he has won many competitions, including the Canadian Open Guitar Championship, the Southern U.S. Fiddle Championship, and the Southern U.S. Banjo Championship. He has also worked with a number of big-name artists and appeared on the ever-popular Grand Ol’ Opry over two dozen times. His debut album, Out of the Blue, was released when he was only 16 years old.
With A brand new collection of songs from his most recent release Somewhere in the Back of My Heart J.P tells tales of love, loss, joy, and remembrance. He presents the songs in a fresh new environment with an older, wiser, more mature storyteller, getting back to basics with smart production and fewer frills.
